Gaels kick-off 20th anniversary season with new inter-provincial series.
Pre-season is well under way at our new home, the Clydebank Community Sports Hub thanks to the introduction of the new inter-provincial series, played throughout February. The series was a concept thought up by the Gaels Mental Health Committee that were newly formed this year. Their vital role within the club is to promote mental wellbeing and social inclusion and the series was an extremely successful event that proved what the Gaels do best.
The series, set over four weeks, saw players from both the men’s and ladies teams pull together to welcome back players from previous seasons, as well as giving new members a chance to experience what it is like to be a part of the club, in a relaxed and informal way. The message that everyone was welcome, whether you had played county football or never kicked a ball in your life quickly spread and this resulted in over sixty taking part.
Munster, Leinster, Connaught and Ulster competed against each other under the flood lights in wind, rain and snow. Despite this, the atmosphere was fantastic with healthy competition fuelling some very well played action, reflected on the scoreboards throughout the series which shows promise across the club for the upcoming season. The familiar sound of loud, mutual encouragement across the pitch was inspiring and is something we are all enormously proud of. ‘Mon the Gaels!
